20 Random & Funny Facts

Life has been a little too serious in our house these days.  With some big life changes coming up in the near future, I felt a need to have a little extra humour in my day today.  So, here are some totally random funny facts.  These are things everyone should know of course!!  The things that we all use in our everyday lives… ha!

So, have some fun…. hopefully a laugh or two…. and enjoy your day!  Remember laughter is the best medicine… it doesn’t require batteries… and it’s FREE!!!

  1. Beetles taste like apples, wasps like pine nuts, and worms like fried bacon … I was under the understanding that everything unusual tasted like chicken!  Think I’ll pass on seeing if ANY of these actually taste like apples, pine nuts OR fried bacon!
  2. The elephant is the only mammal that can’t jump … I think this is probably something that we should all be thankful for!  Could you imagine what would happen if they all got together and decided to jump at the same time… just to be funny??
  3. A hippo can open its mouth wide enough to fit a 4 foot tall child inside … Really?!?  It wasn’t enough that the hippo can open his mouth 4 feet wide, we had to go and put a 4 foot tall child inside??
  4. Every time you lick a stamp, you’re consuming 1/10 of a calorie … Now there is a low calorie snack!!!
  5. May 29th is officially “Put a Pillow on Your Fridge Day” … I looked this one up and though I don’t understand ‘why’, apparently, yes it is true!  I’ll be sure to mark this one on my calendar!!
  6. Billy goats urinate on their own heads to smell more attractive to females … Well, if that’s not attractive, I don’t know what is!!
  7. In Baltimore, it is illegal to take a lion to the movies … I sure wished I knew this the last time I visited Baltimore!!!!  Sheesh!
  8. About 8,000 Americans are injured by musical instruments each year … Seriously – how does one get injured by a musical instrument that often that it is recorded?  What are people doing – dropping pianos on each other?
  9. Pirates wore earrings because they believed it improved their eyesight … Sure, I see the connection… huh?!?!?!
  10. In New York, it is against the law to throw a ball at someone’s head for fun … So just make sure if you are going to be whippin’ balls at someone’s head, that you have a purpose when you are in New York!!
  11. Each year, there are more than 40,000 toilet related injuries in the United States … Now there’s another odd bunch of injuries!!  Unless you are installing toilets, just how does one end up with a toilet related injury??  Or do I want to know?
  12. Every year more people are killed by donkeys, than in aircraft crashes … Good reason to choose travelling by plane rather than by donkey!?!
  13. When Coca-Cola began to be sold in China, they used characters that would sound like “Coca-Cola” when spoken. Unfortunately, what they turned out to mean was “Bite the wax tadpole”. It did not sell well … Gee, I can’t imagine why not.  With a name like that?!?!?
  14. You can’t plow a cotton field with an elephant in North Carolina … Oh, now what are we going to do with all the elephants that were being used to plow cotton fields in North Carolina?!  Seriously???
  15. Every citizen of Kentucky is required by law to take a bath at least once a year … Remind me to visit on THAT day and not the other 364 days that they aren’t required to bathe.
  16. In New York State, it is still illegal to shoot a rabbit from a moving trolley car … *phew* Thank goodness we clarified that!  Good to know what you can and can’t shoot from a moving trolley car!
  17. In Tennessee, it is against the law to drive a car while sleeping … ummm, only in Tennessee?  Guess everywhere else it’s OK to sleep while driving!!
  18. In Virginia, chickens cannot lay eggs before 8:00 a.m., and must be done before 4:00 p.m. … I sure hope they informed the chickens about this.  What happens if they break the law… is it a case of ‘Off with their heads!!!’?
  19. In Washington State, you can’t carry a concealed weapon that is over 6 feet in length … Just where would one conceal a 6 foot weapon??
  20. In Galveston, Texas, it is illegal to have a camel run loose in the street …Camels in Texas?  There’s something you wouldn’t see everyday. I guess, at least if you did, it’s good to know that they aren’t going to be running loose!

I’m assuming #5 was established, so that the tops of refrigerators got cleaned once a year. Sounds like a spring cleaning thing to me. At least, I would want the space cleaned before I put my pillow up there. :-)

    Enjoyed the list, Jen! Thanks!
